ABOHNS Welcomes Associate Executive Director for Assessments

The American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery (ABOHNS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ronald Kuppersmith, MD, MBA, as Associate Executive Director for Assessments. 

Dr. Kuppersmith has served previously as President of ABOHNS, the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and the Texas Association of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Kuppersmith was in private practice in College Station, Texas. Additionally, he has served on multiple boards of directors and as an advisor to numerous healthcare companies.

Dr. Kuppersmith trained in otolaryngology-head and neck surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. He obtained his MBA at the University of Washington and completed his undergraduate education and medical school at the University of Michigan.

In his new role, Dr. Kuppersmith will be responsible for the development of ABOHNS written examinations for initial and continuing certification. In addition, he will collaborate closely with ABOHNS staff, volunteers, stakeholders, and consultants to ensure administration of high quality written examinations that adhere to best practices in assessment science.

Dr. Kuppersmith will begin his new role on October 5, 2026, working closely with Dr. Steve Telian until Dr. Telian retires on June 30, 2027. The Board extends its sincere appreciation to Dr. Telian for his leadership in this role and his past service to ABOHNS, including as a Director from 2011-2021.
